many choices in selecting the right kind of storage nowadays

By ben sim

previously, i thought that the sshd is a good reasonable choice as of in the year, 2018. there is a better and faster choice, combining optane memory with a traditional hdd.

the reason for not choosing ssd, discussed earlier and in the link below:

i will want to recover data myself if my hdd fail and it’s inexpensive to do so. i don’t play computer games and there is no need for the even faster storage known as optane ssd(combination of ssd and optane memory).

i still think that data recovery for ssd is going to be very expensive if the need arises. complex in that you need special facility to deal with nand chips and not try it in your own home or office.

an above average performance with reliable storage is considered very good for my use, so i recommend an optane memory and traditional hdd. as for the reliability of this optane memory, i haven’t tried and awaiting. i for somehow don’t quite trust ssd storage as can be seen from my views above.

what about backing up data before your ssd storage fail? the reason for picking a traditional hdd over ssd, many softwares and tools are readily available if your hdd fail. in this way, you can recover data on your own. if ssd fail except for the controller, it will probably end up in the recovery laboratory. also for privacy reason, having someone recover your data is like entrusting your house key to the tech people. how much do you trust them? at such, it’s really up to yourself to see if all is worth the effort or money concern.
