ddrescue was so good… “boring IT topic“😂

By ben sim

I saw this snapshot in my cloud drive “on this day”- a tingling reminder of those days doing data recovery for faulty mechanical hard disks. Such a typical data recovery cost up to AUD $1500 plus restoration. All I need was to execute “ddrescue” command in Knoppix (german version) Linux on a USB stick. It’s free cos’ it is a free source. ddrescue is a utility in Linux, it is so good and much better than those commercial versions of windows data recovery software. Typical data recovery with ddrescue up to 99% and beyond! Typically, need to run overnight for a 1 TB hard disk.

These days, backups are all to the cloud. so if your hard disk is broken, just buy a new SSD or a new computer – pricing is very competitive so it is good!
